Prostate cancer kills an estimated 35,000 men in the United States each year and attacks another 165,000. Most cases of prostate cancer do not occur until after men turn 50, but in recent years there has been a steady rise in the percentage of men in their 30s and 40s with both prostate problems and prostate cancer, primarily as a result of poor diet and increasing environmental pollution. Overall, prostate cancer is the most common type of cancer in men over 50, and the second most common type of cancer with men in general. It is particularly common among male African-Americans, who have a 40 percent higher risk of developing the disease compared to other men.

Treatment choices for prostate cancer vary according to how advanced the condition is, and the person’s age. For men 70 years old and above, if their cancer is localized, oftentimes a course of “watchful waiting” is adopted by their physicians, rather than aggressive treatment. In younger men, as well as men whose cancer shows signs of spreading into other areas of the body, conventional physicians will often suggest aggressive treatments. These include chemotherapy, radiation, surgical removal of the prostate gland (radical prostatectomy), internal seed radiation (in which radioactive seeds are surgically implanted into the prostate gland), synthetic hormone therapy, and cryosurgery, which literally freezes both the prostate gland and the cancer cells it contains to death. All of these conventional therapies are fraught with side effects and none of them can guarantee that cancer will not return at a later time. In addition, especially in older men, treatment may not be necessary, since, in 80 percent of prostate cancer cases, the cancer is slow growing and does not spread beyond the prostate gland itself, thus causing few if any problems.

Caution: If you suspect you have prostate cancer, contact your physician immediately.

There are two types of prostate cancer—localized and metastasized.Localized prostate cancer refers to early stage prostate cancer that has not spread beyond the prostate gland. Metastasized prostate cancer is a far more serious condition in which cancer cells have spread into other parts of the body (usually via the blood and/or lymph).

Symptoms of prostate cancer include blood in the urine; pain in the area of the prostate, genitalia, and/or lower back; prostate enlargement (BPH), difficulty urinating, extreme fatigue, and unexplained weight loss.

There are natural cures for Prostate Cancer that do not involve the use of pharmaceutical drugs. They involve restoring the biochemical balance of the body, and making dietary and lifestyle changes designed to improve one's general health.

Natural treatments for prostate cancer

As the most common type of cancer in men over 50 and the second most prevalent form of the disease overall in men, some 35,000 males die from prostate cancer in the United States every year, while another 165,000 suffer with the disease.

There are two types of prostate cancer—localized and metastasized. Localized prostate cancer refers to the early stage of the disease in which the cancer has not spread. Metastasized prostate cancer is a more serious condition in which cancer cells have spread into other parts of the body, usually via the blood or lymph glands.

Who gets prostate cancer?

Only men get prostate cancer and most cases occur in males over 50. But, in recent years there has been a rise in the number of younger men in their 30s and 40s developing problems and requiring prostate cancer treatments. This is thought to be the result of poor diet and lifestyle as well as an increase in environmental pollutants.

Prostate cancer is also more prevalent in certain groups. It is particularly common among male African-Americans, who have a 40 percent higher risk of developing the disease.

Prostate cancer treatments

As there are different forms of the disease, prostate cancer treatments vary greatly depending on the severity of the illness, how advanced it is, and the age of the sufferer.

Especially in older men, treatment may not be necessary — since in 80 percent of prostate cancer cases, the disease is slow growing and does not spread beyond the prostate gland itself, thus causing few, if any, problems. Therefore, for men aged 70 or over, if the prostate cancer is localized then many doctors will simply “watch” the patient and the disease rather than prescribing aggressive prostate cancer treatments.

But when prostate cancer is diagnosed in younger men, or the disease is metasized and shows signs of spreading into other parts of the body, many doctors prescribe aggressive prostate cancer treatments which can cause serious side effects without guaranteeing that the cancer will be cured and not return at a later stage.

These include chemotherapy, radiation, surgical removal of the prostate gland (radical prostatectomy), internal seed radiation (in which radioactive seeds are surgically implanted into the prostate gland), synthetic hormone therapy, and cryosurgery, which literally freezes both the prostate gland and the cancer cells it contains.
