Fresh Steamed Broccoli

Broccoli is rich in vitamins A, B, and C, as well as calcium and other minerals. It is also thought to reduce the risk of some cancers. It tastes great, no matter what the president says.

Ingedients

  • 1 head fresh, organic broccoli
  • 1 tsp gomasio (sesame seeds and sea salt)
  • 1 T coconut oil

Directions

Purchase gomasio from an Asian market or natural food store. Or, you can make your own: wash and drain ΒΌ cup of organic sesame seeds; pan roast them until golden and they start to pop. Use a mortar & pestle (or use a Japanese bowl called a suribachi, available in Asian stores, some natural food stores, and online) to grind the seeds with 1 tsp sea salt until the seeds are broken and the natural oil coats the salt. Do not overgrind to flour consistency.

Trim the end from the broccoli, and peel the stalk. Wash the head well to be sure any critters are removed. Cut the flowerettes from the head, and slice the stalk into bite-sized pieces. Don’t miss the stalk – it’s the best part! Place in a vegetable steamer and cook until tender, being sure not to overcook. The broccoli should be bright green.

Place in a bowl and drizzle with oil. Sprinkle with gomasio to taste.
