Guys, could your coffee habit be causing bladder problems?
A new study reveals that a leaky bladder in men could be due to caffeine-intake.
And what’s more, the amount of caffeine is surprising. Just two cups a day is all it takes to contribute to incontinence.
The research has been carried out by the University of Alabama and the findings published in The Journal of Urology.
It found that the men who consumed the most coffee were more likely to have the most bladder problems. Similar research was carried out amongst women in 2011 when caffeine incontinence was proved then.
It is estimated that 85 per cent of Americans consume caffeine through beverages like coffee, tea and soft drinks. It is also found in some foods such as candy, chocolate ice-cream and pastries.
The research has been based on the responses of 4,000 men who took part in a national health survey between 2005 and 2008. On average they consumed 169 milligrams of caffeine per day.
Those ingesting lower doses suffered fewer problems but those who drank and ate higher levels of caffeine (234mg or more) were 72 per cent more likely to have incontinence problems. Men who downed more than 392 mg double their risks by more than twice.
Maybe it’s time to ditch the caffeine guys!
