Learning a bit more about Dr Maria McGee
Dr Maria McGee trained in Medicine in Manchester, UK, graduating MBChB in 1979, which was followed by training in clinical Psychiatry.
Since moving to Ireland in 2000 she has developed her interest in the application of natural alternatives for the management of skin problems, following her family’s experience of the limitations of conventional treatments. Intensive research and development has resulted in her own all natural range of organic skin cleansers and moisturisers which incorporate water from the spring on the family farm in Co Donegal in Ireland, organic seaweed and organically produced FairTrade oils from around the world. Dr McGee has a particular interest in the use of traditional non-pharmaceutical all-edible skin care and uses her international contacts to continually expand the knowledge and innovation she brings to her product development.
Dr McGee has a particular interest in management of diabetes-related skin problems and is currently involved in a joint research project with the University of Ulster, Jordanstown, Department of Podiatry demonstrating the value of an all natural approach to care of the diabetic foot.
Dr McGee is the founder of the Northern Ireland Senior Education Events series of lectures where health professionals bring their expertise to senior groups in a social environment , bringing up to date advice on areas such as footcare and mobility, management of diet, and adapting to the senior lifestyle. She writes regularly on natural skincare and health options, and has appeared on TV and radio in her role as natural skincare expert.
Dr McGee advises Jason Smyth, 4 times Paralympic Gold medallist on health and performance issues and is currently involved in research into the application of WADA-compliant natural products to enhancing performance and fulfilling potential in top level competitive athletics.
Dr McGee has founded her company Marble Hill in accordance with her commitment to strong ethical values as a Social Enterprise, supporting impoverished communities in the Third World by the use of fairly traded ingredients to produce only the most effective and pure skincare.
Dr McGee is married to Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, Henry and has three sons and two grandsons.
