Body Deodorants

13

Description: The difference between antiperspirants and deodorants is that antiperspirants use aluminum based ingredients to clog the pores to prevent sweating and odors. Deodorants work by fighting bacteria present and neutralizing the smell associated with sweat. Commonly used deodorants containing parabens (methyl-, ethyl-, butyl-) and aluminum have been linked with possibly contributing to breast cancer.

What to look for: Can be applied in multiple forms: stick, rock, roll-on or spray. Look for natural deodorants containing essential oils, vegetable-based products and herbs to prevent odors, instead of harsh chemicals. Be careful with the word “natural” as it does not guarantee a safe deodorant.

Uses: Should be applied once a day to prevent unpleasant body odors.

Where to find: Health Food Stores and Online Resources.

Avoid: Antiperspirants that contain artificial fragrances, aluminum, or parabens (preservatives).
