Bottled Water Anyone?

We depend on water for life. Drinking plenty of pure water is critical to health, especially in this day and age when so much of the food supply has been contaminated by pesticides, chemicals, additives, and more.

What’s the difference in bottled waters, anyway? First, know that there is little or no regulation of bottled water in this country, and in some cases, bottled waters have been found to be contaminated and/or of lower quality than ordinary tap water! Generally, municipal systems test for more contaminants than bottling companies. An estimated one quarter of bottled water is actually tap water.

Spring water comes from a natural spring, a point where groundwater flows out of the ground. Minerals become dissolved in the water as it moves through the underground rocks. This may give the water flavor and even carbon dioxide bubbles, depending upon the nature of the geology through which it passes. Spring water is often bottled and sold as mineral water. Springs that contain significant amounts of minerals are sometimes called ‘mineral springs’. Springs that contain large amounts of dissolved sodium salts, mostly sodium carbonate, are called ‘soda springs’. As the water surfaces, it can attract impurities, and once it reaches the surface, it can be exposed to pollution and contamination.

Artesian springs are deeper in the earth, and can only be tapped by humans. The water is protected by stone and clay layers until it reaches the surface. Some artesian bottlers claim that their water has been underground since before the industrial revolution and has therefore not been exposed to polluted air, and that it has been naturally filtered through silica-rich volcanic rock. Silica contributes to flavor and mouth feel.

Purified water is municipal tap water that has been treated to remove impurities that are deemed unfit for human consumption. The process also removes minerals and nutrients, so there is often no flavor or mouth feel. Some things can’t be removed by the filtration processes used. In addition, some municipalities add things to the water, such as fluoride.

We at Natural Cures suggest installing a good quality water filtration system for use in the home, such as a reverse osmosis system, and bottling your own. When you are required to buy bottled water, look for artesian spring waters such as Fiji and Volvic, or play it safe with distilled water, which removes everything under the sun.

  • Distilled water continues to remove things after it's drank (blood minerals and nutrients) so be careful to not drink distilled water all the time. Best to make your own distilled water, buy a home use distiller to minimize the risk of benzene and other contaminants tha get into store bought distilled water. Some of the contaminents get in the water via the facility clenaing process, and some by the plastic bottles reaching temps >85F causes "leaching" (such as when sitting in hot wharehouses and trucks).

  • Hi,

A question about distilled water to Mr. William Vincenti,
You are saying it is not good to drink distilled water all the time. How much should we drink? What we can use instead?

    Thanks,
    Dilek

  • Kevin mentions in his book "Natural Cures They Don't Want us to Know About" that he has a list of which bottled spring waters are better than others. Does anyone know where to find that list on this website?
    Thanks Karen.

  • question? about vapor distilled water with electrolytes added. The brand it smartwater. Is that good drinking water? Waiting your reply. Manila:

  • I am also looking for the list of bottled water that is safe to drink. I live in a city and have never drank the water but don't have the money for a good filtration sistume yet. i have an under the sink unite but will not drink the water still. I would realy like to know what brands of water is safest to get. thank you

  • if anyone is traveling to hawaii & is concerned with the quality of their drinking water, there are plenty of hawaiian artesian waters here. personally, i like the taste of artesian water better, it's slightly heavier (in lack of a better term)

  • Grocery stores such as Woodmans, etc have a reverse Osmosis filtering system on site where you can purchase containers and then do refills for like $.30 per gallon.

  • I am a proponent of drinking healthy water. Ionized water. With high ph.
Acidic water is bad for your health.
Purified water is what comes out of the tap and is in most bottles.
Alkaline water filters and jugs are available in the market that transform distilled water into healthy water.
More people are installing anti-oxidant alkaline water filters after their reverse osmosis filters at home.

Another reason not to drink water from plastic bottles is because most of them will end up in the ocean contributing to the floating garbage patches in the five currents of the Pacific, Atlantic and Indian Oceans killing marine life and polluting our marine food chain.
