Natural Remedies For Over 200 Illnesses

Bronchitis is a respiratory condition that is characterized by inflammation of the bronchial airways.

Caution: Left untreated, bronchitis can result in the development of pneumonia, a potentially fatal health condition. If you develop symptoms of chronic bronchitis, seek immediate medical attention.

Types of Bronchitis
There are two types of bronchitis—acute and chronic. Acute bronchitis is characterized by deep, dry, or wet cough that tends to resolve within one to two weeks. Acute bronchitis usually results from a cold, flu, or, in some cases, sinusitis, although it can also develop due to exposure to bacterial or viral infection.

Chronic bronchitis typically occurs without exposure to infectious agents, and can often develop as a progression of acute bronchitis. It can linger for months and/or recur on a regular basis. In addition to coughing, chronic bronchitis can also be accompanied by wheezing and/or sensations of breathlessness.

  • Both acute and chronic bronchitis symptoms include deep, dry, or wet cough and inflammation of the bronchial airways. Other symptoms can include chills, fever, excessive production of mucus, and the frequent need to expectorate phlegm and sputum. Both forms of bronchitis can also result in diminished immune function, leading to greater susceptibility to other conditions, including infections and pneumonia.

  • Acute bronchitis is usually caused by bacterial or viral infections, food allergies, environmental allergies, and environmental toxins. It can also be caused by exposure to cold. Chronic bronchitis can be caused by all of the above factors, as well as smoking and regular exposure to second hand smoke. Both forms of bronchitis can also result from cold, flu, or sinusitis.

  • As with all diseases this did not happen overnight. The very first thing you must do is see a licensed health professional. Find a list of practitioners in your local area here

Here are some things you can discuss with your practitioner:

    Health protocols

    • Do the Hydrogen Peroxide Protocol to strengthen the immune system:
    • Drink 3oz of Colloidal Silver, three or four times a day for 60 days www.colloidsforlife.com Silver has long been recognised as a powerful natural antibiotic.  Colloidal silver is silver that has been removed electronically from its source and then suspended in water.  It is used to treat a myriad of diseases.

    • Cold friction rubs applied every 48 hours can help to hasten recovery, as can treading cold water for five to ten minutes each day, which strengthens the immune system.
    • Soaking in a hot bath for 30 to 60 minutes can also be effective.
    • We recommend regular colonics to remove toxicity from the body.  Find a practitioner here.
    • Take a bath as often as possible up to once a day with two litres of 35% food grade Hydrogen Peroxide.

  • Diet:

    Things to do:

    • You need to be screened for food allergies and sensitivities, and then avoid eating those foods you are allergic or sensitive to.  Go to NAET www.naet.com
    • During the onset of symptoms, eat hot, spicy organic foods, such as chili peppers, garlic, ginger and onions, in order to open the air passages and encourage the elimination of mucus. Spices such as mustard and horseradish can also be helpful for this purpose.
    • Emphasize organic, whole foods, especially plenty of fresh, raw organic vegetables, nuts and seeds, organic poultry, and wild-caught fish.
    • Garlic and onions should be staples in your meals, due to their powerful health benefits for the lungs and overall respiratory system.
    • Drink plenty or pure, fresh water each day (at least eight ounces every two hours).
    • Organic, extra virgin olive and coconut oils should also be used liberally.
    • Homemade soups, such as turkey or chicken, vegetable, and barley, can be consumed in order to help thin mucus.
    • Drink plenty of pure, fresh water each day; a minimum of eight ounces should be drunk every two hours.
    • Vegan diets have been found to significantly improve symptoms of most respiratory conditions, including bronchitis.  According to leading naturopathic physician and researcher Joseph E. Pizzorno, N.D., a vegan diet can significantly improve symptoms of most respiratory conditions, including bronchitis. Dr. Pizzorno reports that over 90 percent of all people who follow a vegan diet for at least one year experience notable improvements in their health.

    What not to do:

    • Do not consume any artificial sweeteners, such as Splenda, NutraSweet or Aspartame
    • Do not consume high fructose corn syrup or mono-sodium glutamate.
    • Avoid all sugar and sugar products.
      • Avoid bananas as they encourage mucus production.
      • Avoid wheat and wheat by-products.
    • Do not drink any carbonated beverages.
    • Avoid all fast food restaurants and commercially processed foods.
    • Avoid all canned food and all foods containing artificial ingredients, such as additives, colorings, flavorings, and preservatives.
    • Eliminate conventional dairy products.  The best dairy products are raw, unpasteurised and homogenised dairy from grass fed cows.  If this is unavailable, then buy organic dairy.
    • Avoid conventional beef. The best beef is organic grass fed beef.

www.grasslandbeef.com  The second best is organic meat; this includes beef, veal, lamb, chicken and turkey.

    • Take Vitamin D3 50,000-100,000 International Units a day nc.vitaminstrength.com for periods of 4 weeks at a time.
    • Wholefood supplements are the best way of ensuring your nutritional needs are met.  The best we know on the market is Kevin Trudeau’s “KT Daily” product. You can find more details here.
    • Take Fivelac Probiotic – three packets a day, do both of those for 60 days.
    • Take Alli-C (garlic capsules which have super powerful antibacterial properties) 4 capsules three times a day.  1 capsule is the equivalent to 40 cloves of garlic (without the breath to go with it!!).
    • Coral Calcium
    • Able Heel
    • Vitamin B3 (niacin), B5, B6 and B12 are important for immunity and controlling inflammation.
    • Vitamin C protects lung tissues and fights infection.

Other useful supplements for preventing and reversing bronchitis include vitamin A, Vitamin E, selenium, and zinc. Bromelain, N-acetylcysteine (NAC), thymus gland extract, and proteolytic enzymes taken in between meals are recommended.

    Prescription and non-prescription medication:

What non-prescription and prescription drugs are you taking?  Your non-prescription and prescription are partially the reason that you have this illness or disease – you need to get off these medications but do so only under the guidance of a licensed health care practitioner.

  • Physical and mental/emotional stress has been found to be associated with bronchitis. Stress has been shown to cause white blood cells known as leukocytes to stick to bronchial cells. When this occurs, inflammation of the bronchial airways can often occur.  Here are some things you can do to combat stress and restore balance:

    • Go to a Dr Morter BEST (Bio-Energetic Synchronisation Technique) Practitioner.
    • Sign up for Energetic Re-Balancing: 2 practitioners to consider are:

    • Reiki healing is very powerful in releasing stress and emotional baggage.  Find a practitioner here.
    • Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) has had remarkable results in dissolving stress.  Find a local practitioner here or go to www.thetappingsolution.com or www.tftrx.com
    • Try Hypnotherapy to relax the mind.  Find a practitioner here.
    • Meditation has been scientifically shown to relieve stress, as well as to improve overall health and immune function, and to reduce the pain and suffering caused by chronic disease. In fact, in 1984, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) recommended meditation as the more appropriate and effective choice for treating mild cases of high blood pressure, instead of commonly prescribed blood pressure medications. Meditation can offer new insights and improved coping strategies, better enabling you to meet the challenges of the day. Some types of meditation, such as Transcendental Meditation (TM), have even been shown to produce deeper states of physical relaxation than ordinary sleep.Although there are many types of meditation practices to choose from, all of them have one thing in common: focused attention on the breath. If you are new to meditation, you can begin by sitting up straight yet comfortably and closing your eyes. Place your attention on your breathing as you inhale and exhale. Each time you find your attention starting to wander, simply refocus on your breath. Though doing so may seem difficult initially, with practice it will become easier and easier, and you will easily spend 20 to 30 minutes meditating in this manner. The key is to be gentle with yourself and not force. At first, you may find yourself unable to sit still for more than a few minutes. If that is the case, don’t continue. Instead, each day seek to add to the length of your meditation practice until you reach your goal of 20 to 30 minutes per session.

  • Ayurvedic Medicine

Ayurvedic physicians commonly recommend a mixture of the herbs sitopaladi, punarnava, trikatu, and mahasudarshan for symptoms.

However, as always the fastest most effective way to receive tailored advice to your own situation, you should visit a local licensed practitioner. Find your closest Ayurvedic practitioners here

    Traditional Chinese Medicine

Ginseng – studies have shown it reduces inflammation in the lungs and improves the lung’s tissues.

Medicinal Mushrooms are another popular Chinese remedy.  Reishi and Cordyceps are popular choices:

Reishi has been found to have a healing effect on the lungs.  When more than 2000 individuals suffering from chronic bronchitis took reishi syrup, within just two weeks 60 –90% felt better, according to “Medicinal mushrooms,” by Christopher Hobbs, published in Herbs for Health, Jan/Feb 97.    Researchers have found that reishi has anti-allergic, anti-inflammatory, anti-viral, anti-bacterial, and antioxidant properties.

Cordyceps has shown positive results in fighting against cough, chronic bronchitis and asthma.  It relaxes bronchial walls and has anti-inflammatory properties.

Inhaling the steamed vapors of the essential oils bergamot, camphor, cedarwood, cypress, eucalyptus, lavender, peppermint, tea-tree, pine, and sandalwood can help to relieve bronchitis symptoms. Bergamot, sandalwood, and thyme are also useful for relieving excess mucus production.

    Homeopathic Medicine

Useful homeopathic remedies for bronchitis include Aconite, Arsen alb., Bryonia, Calc. sulph., Ferr phos., Lymphomyosot, Phosphorus, and Sulfur.

Owing to the principles behind homeopathy it is essential you see a licensed practitioner to receive your own personalised prescription.  Find your closest Homeopath here

Useful herbs for treating bronchitis include anise, astragalus, cherry bark, coltsfoot, camomile,  Echinacea, elecampane, garlic, ginseng, goldenseal, grindelia, horehound, licorice root, lobelia, marshmallow root, mullein, peppermint, pleurisy root, and pokeroot. For best results, take as teas or tinctures.

The Buteyko Institute Method  – this teaches people to correct dysfunctional breathing and thereby normalise their breathing pattern. This results in immediate improvement in asthma, sleep apnoea, snoring, emphysema, COAD, COPD, sinusitis, hay fever, rhinitis, blocked nose, allergies, bronchitis, bronchiectasis, panic and anxiety conditions, and many other respiratory problems. www.buteykobreathing.org.

Use a rebounder (mini trampoline). Rebounding helps build strength and endurance, and works out your cardiovascular and respiratory systems. Rebounding keeps you fit and healthy both on the outside and inside and is a fantastic all round workout.

Yoga, Tai Chi and Qigong are all effective practices for clearing and strengthening the lungs.

    General Self-Care Measures

Avoid cough suppressants, which prevent mucus from being cleared from the lungs. Coughing should be encouraged in order to clear mucus. Spending a few minutes periodically throughout the day to practice deep breathing can also be helpful.

If you smoke is it vital that you quit.

If you are overweight, start to lose weight – being overweight may put pressure on the lungs and trigger an inflammatory response.

Avoid all household chemical cleaners and make your own plant based cleaning products with aromatherapy oils.

    Improving Indoor Air Quality

Improving the quality of your indoor air, both at home and at work, is an essential self-care step for helping to treat and prevent respiratory conditions, including bronchitis. Healthy air is warm, free of pollutants and odors, has a relative humidity of between 35 to 60 percent, and is high in oxygen and negative ions (3,000 to 6,000 negative ions per cubic centimeter). Today’s technology makes it easy to ensure that your indoor air meets the above criteria. A negative ion generator can not only increase the oxygen and negative ion content of indoor air, but can also cleanse it of harmful animal dander, bacteria, dust, mold, pollen, and viruses. Moreover, negative ions help to soothe and repair damaged mucosa of the nasal, lung, and bronchial pathways. For best results, choose a self-regulating negative ion generator that emits at least one trillion negative ions per second.

You should also use a humidifier to keep your indoor air moist, especially during winter months, when air tends to be drier. Choose a warm mist unit. Adding plants to your home and work environments can also help keep air moist. Certain plants, such as chrysanthemums, philodendron, and spider plants, can also help to keep your air free of circulating dust and microorganisms, since they act as natural air filters.

Also be sure that your home and work environments are properly ventilated, and avoid the use of synthetic materials in your home and workplace, including plastics.

    Infraspinatus Respiratory Response (I.R.R.) Therapy
Developed by Harry H. Philibert, M.D., of Metairie, Louisiana, Infraspinatus Respiratory Response (I.R.R.) Therapy addresses the Infraspinatus Respiratory Response (I.R.R.), also known as the Infrascapula Respiratory Reflex. I.R.R. is a neuromuscular response that is directly linked to the sympathetic nervous system and is involved in the breathing difficulties caused by bronchitis. The I.R.R. is also involved in pneumonia and asthma. According to Dr. Philibert, who has successfully treated thousands of patients suffering from asthma and other respiratory disorders, manipulation of the I.R.R. can reverse, and many times completely eliminate asthma attacks.

I.R.R. Therapy involves the use of lidocaine injections into the infraspinatus muscle, which, when constricted, can exacerbate bronchitis symptoms. In cases of acute bronchitis, Dr. Philibert says practitioners can often achieve complete cessation of symptoms in a single session, while for chronic cases of bronchitis success is usually achieved in three to five treatments. Dr. Philibert has trained over 3,000 physicians in the I.R.R. technique. To locate one near you, contact Dr. Philibert at (504) 831-3380.

    Juice Therapy

Helpful juice combinations for relieving bronchitis symptoms are carrot and radish juice; carrot, beet, and cucumber; carrot and spinach; carrot and celery; and carrot, beet, and cucumber. Wheatgrass juice can also be effective.

    Alternative Professional Care
The following therapies can also help to prevent and relieve bronchitis: Acupressure, Acupuncture, Applied Kinesiology, Biofeedback Training and Neurotherapy, Bodywork (Massage, reflexology, and Rolfing), Detoxification Therapy, Energy Medicine (Light Beam Generator, Ondamed), Environmental Medicine, Enzyme Therapy, Magnet Therapy, Naturopathic Medicine, Osteopathic Medicine and Oxygen Therapy (hydrogen peroxide therapy, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, ozone therapy). (See Glossary for descriptions of these Alternative Therapies.)
