Music Therapy embraces music to aid communication and the development of self-awareness. Because music can produce a strong emotional response, it is often used with handicapped children to overcome personal barriers and disabilities, and to bring a new sense of order and meaning into their lives. It may also be useful to help children and adults express a wide range of moods and feelings. Ambient music, a form of nonintrusive New Age music, is now being used as an adjunct to meditation, and to enhance guided imagery exercises.
