Thyroid Health
The thyroid gland affects the functioning of several crucial bodily systems, including the immune system, metabolism, energy level, weight maintenance, mental health, and others. Many of us have less than optimal thyroid activity, being either underactive, called hypothyroidism,or overactive, called hyperthyroidism.
Symptoms of hypothyroidism include: fatigue, weight gain, constipation, irritability, depression, recurrent infections, menstrual problems, headaches, slowed heart rate and more.
Symptoms of hyperthyroidism include: rapid heart rate, trembling, fatigue, anxiety, weight loss, diarrhea, excessive sweating and more.
How do you know for sure? The standard lab tests aren’t always the best way to ascertain thyroid function. However, there is an easy and inexpensive way to find out if your thyroid is underactive – take your basal body temperature when you first wake, before you get up or do anything. You’ll need a basal thermometer, which costs less than $10 at the pharmacy. If your temp is below normal for several mornings in a row, you may have hypothyroidism.
See an alternative doctor for proper guidance. These conditions can often be treated naturally with diet, homeopathy, acupuncture, amino acids, glandular extracts and vitamin/mineral/herb supplements.
